Romans 8:4 Meditation
Text (Rom 8:4, NIV):
"... in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit."
In nailing sin to the cross(1), the Father destroyed it and its lasting effects once and for all(2). In destroying it, He tore away(3) forever that which separated humanity from Himself and created the garden-like conditions in which the Holy Spirit could sow the law of life(4) and love(5) into the hearts of His newly-adopted children(6).
Now, with God's law implanted tenderly in their innermost parts(7), redeemed humanity could begin to incarnate His thoughts and feelings(8) and, in time, rediscover the glory(9) they lost at the fall: the glory that comes with being image-bearers(10) of the Most High and warrior-slaves(11) of the King of kings. This was God's plan from the beginning(12). No one saw it coming, for it took everyone by surprise.
Everyone, except God, and the prophets, who "saw" beforehand what God would one day do(13).
May I begin to feel the glory I have as Your slave, friend, and son (or daughter).
