Romans 8:5 Meditation
Text (Ro 8:5, NIV):
"Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires."
Those dominated by the fallen nature, live and breathe sin, rebellion, and destructiveness(1). Driven solely by that which momentarily satisfies the false self, they give little thought to the loving purity of God's exquisite Mind or the compassionate drive of His playful Heart.
Those borne of God, though, pursue a radically different path as they fix their eyes on their Master(2), abide in Him(3), and allow continuously His Words to abide in them(4). Above all else, they desire passionately to experience divine union with God Almighty(5) and see the complete fulfillment of His desires in them and those around them. In delighting in God, they make His desires progressively theirs; in so doing, they become the desires and intentions of God manifested in fleshly form—very much they way their Master was when He walked the earth(6).
I long to live according to Your Spirit, which is alive and at work within me. Help me, Lord, to fix my eyes on You and to strive diligently to think Your thoughts as You've expressed them in Your Word.
